Grayson County Jail Roster
Grayson County does not run a stand-alone jail in Independence for normal post-arrest custody. People arrested by the Grayson County Sheriff's Office, town police, Virginia State Police, or another local agency are usually committed to New River Valley Regional Jail, which serves Bland, Carroll, Floyd, Giles, Grayson, Pulaski, and Wythe counties plus the City of Radford. The jail is operated by the New River Valley Regional Jail Authority, and the official public search is labeled Inmate Lookup.
The Grayson County jail roster is a current-custody starting point, not a full court file. It can help confirm that a person has been booked into NRVRJ, but it does not replace court case records, sheriff incident reports, or state prison records. River North Correctional Center is physically in Grayson County, yet it is a Virginia Department of Corrections prison for sentenced people. A newly arrested person normally belongs in the NRVRJ search first. A sentenced prisoner should be checked in the VADOC Inmate and Supervisee Locator.

A no-match result should not be treated as proof that no arrest occurred. Intake, medical screening, identity review, release, hospital custody, a transfer, or a different spelling can all break a quick search. Grayson County inmate records may also split across a sheriff record, jail booking record, and court case record.

Grayson County Inmate Record Fields
The public research confirmed the NRVRJ search fields, but it did not copy a live inmate profile. That matters. Booking photos, charges, and bond details may appear on a full profile, but each record should be checked against the official roster, jail staff, and the court file before relying on it. Custody pointer: A booking charge is an intake record. Formal case status should be checked through Virginia court records after the arrest.
Grayson County Inmate Records Channels
All access channels should be checked in the right order. The online roster is fastest, but NRVRJ also has a public phone line and a FOIA page for records that are not visible online. The Grayson County Sheriff's Office is a separate source for sheriff-created arrest or incident records. Virginia VINE gives custody notifications, not a full booking sheet.

The official Grayson County Sheriff VA App Store listing and Google Play listing advertise inmate information and inmate search. The store text does not say whether the app opens the same NRVRJ lookup or a separate app-only tool, so compare it with the jail roster if one channel fails.

Two facility names cause most Grayson County inmate records confusion. NRVRJ is the jail for local arrests. River North Correctional Center is a state prison inside Grayson County. It does not serve as the county booking site for new arrests.

Grayson County Booking Process
A Grayson County arrest can begin with a new charge, warrant, bench warrant, probation or parole violation, or hold from another agency. After arrest, the person goes through magistrate review and may be released or committed to NRVRJ. The jail has a magistrate's office in the building, a secure vehicle sallyport, and a classification process after intake. A booking record may include identifiers, property/account handling, health screening, and housing assignment.
Bond status starts with the magistrate's bail decision. NRVRJ's bonding page lists four possible outcomes: personal recognizance, unsecured bond, secured bond, or ineligible for bail. Once a person is committed to jail, the jail states that a judge is the only one who can lower bond or arrange recognizance. A detainer or hold from another agency can block release even when local bond is posted.

Grayson County Jail Visitation
NRVRJ family and friend visits use tablet video visitation through GettingOut. The jail says visitors create an account at GettingOut or call the support number, and the inmate starts the visit. Attorney visits have a different professional-visit process and require advance fax notice. Clergy use GettingOut and follow the same tablet visitation windows as family and friends.

Grayson County Inmate Contact
NRVRJ publishes separate rules for mail, phones, property, and accounts. Personal inmate mail is sent to a scanning address in Phoenix, Maryland with the full facility name and state, inmate full name and identifier, and sender's full physical address. Legal mail and checks or money orders do not go to that Phoenix address. The jail's mail rules include photo limits, including no IDs as profile photos, no face-altering filters, no illegal drugs, no guns, no obstructed faces, no collages, and no screenshots of video visitation with an incarcerated person.
For phone and account services, the jail uses GTL/PCS and ConnectNetwork. ConnectNetwork lists New River Valley VA-Regional Jail as Site ID 30 with AdvancePay Phone and Trust Fund services. NRVRJ's phone page says housing-area phones are generally available in morning, afternoon, and evening windows, but inmates cannot receive incoming calls on the inmate phone system.

Grayson County DOC and Federal Search
When a Grayson County inmate record disappears from the jail roster after sentencing, the next search is usually VADOC. The VADOC locator covers people in state correctional institutions, probationers and parolees, people in institutional hospitals, some people in local or regional jails under VADOC authority, and CCAP participants. Its data is updated daily, but VADOC warns that records may be inaccurate or outdated.
The federal and immigration paths are narrower. The BOP locator searches federal inmates from 1982 to the present, usually after federal commitment. U.S. Marshals pretrial custody may not appear there yet. ICE ODLS searches immigration custody by A-number and country of birth or by biographical data. No official BOP or ICE detention facility was located in Grayson County, but a hold can still affect release from jail.
